Plain-language guides to how solar works and what goes into a well-built plant.

How a solar plant works

  1. Modules capture sunlightSolar cells convert light into direct current (DC).
  2. Inverter converts powerDC becomes alternating current (AC) for your equipment.
  3. You use it on siteSolar power runs your loads first, reducing what you buy from the grid.
  4. Surplus goes to the gridUnder net metering, exported units are credited on your bill.

Frequently asked questions

How much roof area do I need?

As a rule of thumb, around 100 sq ft of shadow-free roof per kW, depending on the roof type and module choice. Our engineers confirm the usable area during a site survey.

Which roofs are suitable for solar?

RCC, metal sheet and many asbestos sheet roofs can take solar with the right structure, as can open ground. We check the structural condition, orientation and shading before design.

What is net metering?

Net metering lets you export surplus solar power to the grid and adjust it against the power you import. Rules, limits and approvals are set by your state electricity regulator and DISCOM; we handle the application for you.

What is the difference between the capex and opex (PPA) models?

Under capex you own the plant and keep all the savings; we can help arrange debt funding. Under opex we invest in the plant and you pay only for the power it generates, at an agreed tariff under a long-term PPA.

What is open access solar?

Open access lets eligible industrial and commercial consumers buy solar power from a plant located elsewhere, delivered through the grid, at a tariff usually below the utility's. It needs long-term open access permission from the state utility.

Will my plant work during a power cut?

A grid-connected plant shuts down automatically when the grid fails, for the safety of line workers. To keep critical loads running during outages you need a hybrid system with batteries.

How long does a solar plant last?

Modules typically carry 25-year performance warranties, and a well-built plant keeps producing for 25 years or more. Inverters usually need replacement once during that period.

How much maintenance does a plant need?

Regular module cleaning, periodic inspection of connections, inverters and structures, and performance monitoring. Our O&M service covers all of this.

How long does installation take?

A C&I rooftop plant usually takes a few weeks after approvals; utility-scale plants take a few months. For example, our 2.5 MW Nandurbar plant was designed and built in 3 months.

Are there government schemes for solar?

The central and state governments run programmes for rooftop solar, solar pumps for farmers and grid-connected plants, and they change from time to time. Contact us and we will tell you what currently applies to your project.
